Metal roof panel dimensions in Istanbul, Turkey: standard sizes in mm and metres

Stacked sandwich panels with different insulation cores, with the heading Roof Panel Dimensions: thickness, width and length

A metal roof panel is specified by three main dimensions: thickness, width and length. Mekpan roof panels have a 1000 mm useful width, a minimum length of 2.4 metres and a polyurethane core from 20 to 100 mm, depending on the profile.

These three figures often sit on the same line of a quotation, but each one does a different job. Thickness affects insulation, width sets the panel count, and length affects joints and transport. This guide helps buyers and specifiers in the UK and Europe compare our sizes before requesting a quote from Mekpan, a sandwich panel manufacturer in Turkey with a regional office in Istanbul.

4 ribbed solar-compatible capped panel 1000 mm 2.4 m 40, 50 mm 0.50 mm upper / 0.40 mm lower

In metres, the useful width is 1.00 m and the minimum length is 2.4 m. The maximum length of every panel in this table depends on transport conditions. Load tables by purlin spacing are on each product page.

Standard roof panel thickness in mm

There is no single standard roof thickness. The right core depends on how the building is used, its climate and the energy requirements that apply where it is built. Use these figures as a starting point rather than a calculation:

  • 40 mm: buildings without climate control, such as agricultural stores or temporary structures.
  • 60 mm: a common choice for general industrial buildings and medium-sized factories.
  • 80 mm: regions with colder winters, where 60 mm can fall short.
  • 100 mm: buildings where internal temperature is closely controlled, such as food processing facilities. See also our cold room panels.

Ask your designer to confirm the required U-value before you fix the thickness. In England, for example, this falls under Part L of the Building Regulations, while European projects follow their national energy rules. Our guide to thermal insulation in sandwich panels explains the background.

40 mm insulated roof panels in Turkey

A 40 mm core is listed across all the roof panels in the table above, which makes it an easy size to compare between profiles. It is generally not the right starting point for a heated building in a cold climate.

Roof panel width

All the Mekpan roof panels listed here have a useful width of 1000 mm. This is the figure to use for quantities, quotations and installation plans. The width comes from the profile and cannot be changed, so the real choice lies in thickness and length.

Roof panel length: from 2.4 metres, cut to size

Panels are cut at the factory to the length your project needs, starting from 2.4 m. Ordering to size reduces cutting on site and keeps the quantity take-off simpler.

Transport sets the practical upper limit. As a guide, panels longer than about 13.5 m become difficult to carry on a standard articulated lorry, may need a special vehicle and cost more to deliver. If your project will be shipped by container, check the panel length with our team first.

Within those limits, avoid unnecessary joints. Each overlap is a possible leak point, so on a 9 m slope one 9 m panel is usually a better choice than two 4.5 m panels.

3 ribbed or 5 ribbed: how the profile affects your choice

The 3 ribbed roof panel suits medium-sized warehouses, agricultural and industrial buildings. The 5 ribbed roof panel offers more load capacity, which makes it the stronger option for wide spans and heavy snow. Our article on what a rib is in roof panels explains the difference in more detail.

For very low-pitched roofs, where water drains more slowly, consider the 5 ribbed membrane roof panel. Where you need daylight, the polycarbonate-compatible versions allow rooflights to sit between the panel runs.

Aluminium and polycarbonate options

Selected profiles can be supplied with aluminium instead of painted galvanised steel. Aluminium is lighter and more resistant to corrosion, which helps in coastal or high-humidity locations. Because its mechanical values differ from steel, the structural design should be checked separately.

Polycarbonate rooflight prices and service life vary with thickness, UV protection and profile. Choose UV-protected sheets, as unprotected ones can yellow and turn brittle within a few years.

What determines the right roof panel size?

  • Climate: the same thickness will not perform the same way in a mild coastal region and a cold inland one.
  • Roof pitch: as the pitch falls, water drains more slowly and the profile matters more.
  • Purlin spacing: greater spacing reduces the load a panel can carry, so compare it with the load table on the product page.
  • Snow and wind loads: in Europe and the UK, these are normally assessed by your engineer under Eurocode 1 (EN 1991) and its national annex.

How to calculate roof panel quantities

For a simple rectangular roof, the basic calculation is:

  • Roof area (m²) = length × width
  • Number of panels = roof width ÷ 1.00 m
  • Panel length = slope length + 15–20 cm overlap allowance

For example, a 30 m wide roof with a 9 m slope has an area of 270 m². It needs 30 panels, each about 9.2 m long. Rooflights, chimneys and complex roof shapes will change this, so final quantities should come from a technical drawing.

Common roof panel sizing mistakes

  • Choosing too thin a core: the saving on the order can return as higher heating costs every winter.
  • Ordering short lengths: every extra overlap can become a sealing problem later.
  • Ignoring the climate: a panel that works in a mild region may not be enough in a cold one.
  • Choosing the profile without checking loads: a 3 ribbed panel on a wide-span factory can be a risk under snow or wind.

Frequently asked questions about roof panel dimensions in Turkey

Mekpan roof panels have a useful width of 1000 mm (1.00 m) and a minimum length of 2.4 m. Panels are cut to the length your project needs, and the maximum length depends on transport conditions.
There is no single standard thickness. Mekpan roof panels are listed from 20 to 100 mm depending on the profile. As a starting point, 60 mm is common for general industrial buildings, 80 mm suits regions with colder winters, and 100 mm is typically considered for temperature-controlled buildings.
Yes. A 40 mm polyurethane core is listed for all of our 3 ribbed, 4 ribbed, 5 ribbed, polycarbonate-compatible and membrane roof panels. It is generally suited to buildings that do not need close climate control.
The maximum length depends on transport conditions. As a guide, panels longer than about 13.5 m become difficult to carry on a standard articulated lorry and may need a special vehicle. Container shipments should be checked with our team before you fix the panel length.
For a simple rectangular roof, divide the roof width by the 1.00 m useful width to get the number of panels. Panel length is the slope length plus an overlap allowance of 15–20 cm. Openings and complex roof shapes change this, so final quantities should be taken from a technical drawing.
